Marine Biochemists offers several specialized services to assess and improve your fishery. These services include:
Fish Population Assessment (Is your water body meeting your fishing expectations?)
-Analyze the current state of your fish population through one or more methods including hydro acoustic surveys, electro-fishing surveys, historical stocking reviews, visual observations, and catch-record analysis/interviews.Fish Habitat Assessment (Do you have the right environment for fish survival, growth and reproduction?)
-Assess your current environment for fisheries through habitat analysis. -Habitat analysis looks at several aspects of the aquatic environment including dissolved oxygen distribution, aquatic plant influences, physical bottom structure, substrate for reproduction, and overall living space for a given fish population or species.
Marine Biochemists can use hydro acoustic equipment to analyze an existing fish population and habitat. Fish congregational areas and relative sizes are shown above overlaid on a lake map depicting depth contours.
Marine Biochemists can use physical assessment techniques to provide population information for a given water body. The fish above were collected by use of electro-fishing, and then released back into the lake.
Fish Population Enhancement (Should you add or remove fish?)
-Based on Population and Habitat Assessments, Marine Biochemists can provide recommendations on additional fish stocking or fish harvesting goals. Fish stocking recommendations are customized to the customer’s desires within assessed limitations. Fish harvesting goals are designed to balance the existing population while still maintaining the desired recreational requirements. (See Fish Stocking)Fish Habitat Enhancement (What can I do to improve fish survival, growth and reproduction?)
-Based on Population and Habitat Assessments, Marine Biochemists can enhance the living space or viable habitat for an existing or proposed fish population through aeration installation, aquatic plant and algae control, fish structure installation, spawning site enhancement, etc.Fish Eradication Services (What if my fish population is completely out of balance or made of stunted or rough fish?)
-Where allowed by law, Marine Biochemists can eradicate undesirable fish populations. Local permits and restrictions may be required.
