Yellow Water Lily (upper left drawing) - Common Name: Spatterdock, Yellow Cow Lily
Description: Leaves large, heart-shaped, commonly 8 to 16 in. (20-40 cm) long. Leaf veins extending laterally from midrib. Flower is bright yellow, with a single row of petals. Spreads horizontally from rhizome similar to White Water Lily.
White Water Lily (upper right drawing) - Common Name: Fragrant Water Lily
Description: Large, round, cleft (cut about halfway to the midvein) leaf 6 to 12 in. (15 -30 cm) in diameter. Leaf veins radiate from point of attachment to petiole (the stalk of leaf blade). Underside of purplish-red. White flower with multiple rows of petals. Thick, fleshy rhizome network buried in mud.
